Don’t ship it. Just don’t. It becomes an obsession, to the point where you are thinking about Wolfstar when eating breakfast; thinking about Wolfstar while in Calculus; thinking about Wolfstar while buying Taco Bell – it never stops, and with all the characters that run around your head near constantly, shouting spells and loving words, you start to wonder what normal people think about all day. There will always be something to remind you of puppy love or perhaps something Marauder-ish, but try to stay away.
I know how it can be – you always see cute fan fiction, and there’s always an adorable fan art painting, or someone posted a gif set and your little shipper heart flutters somewhat, but trust me: if you want to graduate high school/college or get a promotion or whatever it is, don’t ship RemusXSirius! You will never stop thinking about them to the point where it’s unhealthy. Though I usually don’t like to admit I ship Wolfstar, I am too far from recovery. Go on … without me…
(Unless, of course, you don’t want a promotion, or don’t care for graduation, or are completely contempt with the insanity that is Wolfstar, then by all means, go ahead. The fanfiction.net history and tracked couple tags are a pleasure.)
If this is the truth it’s a great time for me to be unemployed!
I will talk this over with my parents and tell them why I am not by any circumstances fit to be looking for a job, even less finding something to study.
It’s just wrong.
See, even Dumbledore agrees!
Okay ~le rant start.
So he was a werewolf. He was judged. He was shunned. If you were in this situation, would you like to drag in someone else, someone you LOVE, to be hated as well? Let’s think about it. When he went with the werewolves underground, it didn’t go so well. Why? Because he had tried to live among wizards, so to the ferals who completely embraced their savage werewolf-selves, people like Greyback, Remus was a disgrace for the werewolves. He loathed what he became, and fought it. Remus was like a kid trying to fit in and failing completely.
All in all, Remus never belonged in either world. Neither wizarding nor werewolf. Remus was an intelligent man, so I think he didn’t pass this up as nothing.
Then there’s the fact that he was 37 years old. He had seen war, death, violence. He never even reached 40. Neither Marauder did, and that’s their tragedy. They were all so young when they lost it all. At only 21, Remus had been a werewolf for about 15 years, so he was pretty aware of what pain felt like, then he lost all the true support he ever had. He lost his true friends, the ones that guided him to be a better person, the ones that taught him what he was worth, and the ones that let him be himself. He wasn’t the wimpy kid some people mistake him for, he was a Marauder. He was chosen a prefect. He wasn’t boring, he wasn’t a loser. He was a bloody werewolf, okay? Give him some credit.
He then joined the Order. I don’t think they let wimpy kids in or anything. They all joined when they were 18 and all went pretty well until 1981. After that, there’s not much to say about Remus, because it’s pretty obvious that having lost everything, he wouldn’t want to stay there anymore. Even if there was Harry, I think Dumbledore passed up the option for Remus to have him, because he would “be better with his aunt and uncle” and unknown of all the tragedy surrounding his life.
Several years later, Remus comes back, and bravely hides everything that coming back to Hogwarts must mean. Oh, here’s where we hid from Filch that night of the mucus prank. Looks like the mark of James’ spell is still etched to the wall… They are all dead now. That would have driven me insane, but brave Remus kept it all to himself, kept his true relationship from Harry, even when he had him so close to him in the Patronus lessons. That must’ve required some bloody self-control. So he keeps being all awesome with his Waddiwasi spell and boggart Snape thingy.
To end this part: Remus Lupin was fucking awesome.
Then, all this ship war going on.
Remus/Sirius shippers say that he only got together with Tonks after Sirius died, and that when he was with her, he “was never enthusiastic, always withdraw”. Do you have any evidence that he WASN’T with Tonks BEFORE Sirius died? And about the second thing: well, do you expect him to go prancing around telling everyone of their love and their marriage in the middle of a raging war when they’re all targets of Death Eaters, especially Remus, because, as I said before, he was liked by very few people, the first part was the society that told him off because he was a werewolf and the dark part because he had tried live like a normal, civilized person (also, Voldemort and the Death Eaters despised him just because he was a werewolf). So, yeah. Remus is going to go all happy-go-lucky on everyone just because he loves someone that really loves him back.
To end, there’s the whole “Lupin abandoned Tonks and the baby”. If you’re a Ron/Hermione shipper, your argument is invalid, since Ron abandoned her and Harry in the middle of the Horcrux quest but he came back and they lived happily ever after. If you’re not, let me just paraphrase and use everything I wrote about Remus’ personality a few paragraphs before. Tonks gets pregnant in the middle of the war. Remus knows war. They lost Mad-Eye, they’ve lost Dumbledore. The order is falling apart and their only hope is Harry who nobody knows what he’s up to, so they’re hiding away and doing nothing because they actually can’t. Tonks is pregnant with his baby. What if the baby is a werewolf? Remus knows a werewolf, and they endure pain. His newborn son or daughter with the curse? Remus thinks: Will the baby even LIVE through the first transformation? That must cause anguish to any parent, no doubt about it.
Finally, if the baby is healthy and everything, how will Remus sustain his family? Obviously, Tonks may bring some income from her auror work, but will that ever be enough? Remus (and everyone that loves someone) will want her to have the best and the best only. Remus knows poverty, and he knows that it’s not pretty. Remus knows prejudice, and judging by his status, he hasn’t had any stable job in years, except for the DADA teacher post. He knew that even if the war ended, it would be hard for people to let him work since he was a werewolf.
In the end, the too old, too poor, too dangerous, seemed like a legit argument for him, but for the reasons stated above, not because he never let his “undying love for Sirius” go.
Thanks ~le rant end.
Even though I’m a designated Sirius/Remus shipper (but I do approve of his relationship with Tonks), I find this rant very well written. Obviously the writer of this has their mind set on Remus/Tonks as the way it should be, and I don’t.
I see Sirius/Remus as the way it was and Remus/Tonks as the way it became to be. But still, well written.
Reblogging this again because I love listening to it while I’m writing.
|02.| James, Lily and Peter were the only ones aware of the true nature of Remus’ and Sirius’ relationship. No one else knew. Not even Remus’ parents or Dumbledore.
Only after the events of October 31, 1981, devastated and drunk Remus told Dumbledore.
I approve of this.
